Wonderful Wednesday - No. 7 (Favourite Authors)

Wonderful Wednesdays is a meme about spotlighting and recommending some of our most loved books, even if we haven't read them recently.  Each week will have a different genre or theme.

This weeks theme is favourite authors

Like the host of this meme Sam of Tiny Library I would go with the book being good rather than the author!
But unlike Sam I do have a tendency to go looking for those books by a particular author who has caught my interest.

My first choice would be Jane Austen. Apart from Austen herself, by being introduced to her as a young teenager my reading veered towards her style of writing - over and over again. It is from this that I still tend to like books written in a more gentler style.

The second author of my choice would be Christopher Kremmer. Just one book only written by him read by me - Inhaling the Mahatma and what an impact the book had on me. So that reiterates my saying that the book is important.

It is difficult to stop at one or two - there are gorgeous authors out here - I have to mention a few at least. Rosy Thornton, Chevy Stevens, Georgette Heyer, Jean Plaidy, P D James, Agatha Christie, Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. The list is endless.

  1. I became a fan of Agatha Christie when I was a teenager. My high school English teacher had a classroom library with several of Agatha Christie's mysteries which I checked out and devoured. My favorite is And Then There Were None. I still haven't read all of her mysteries and with some I've forgotten what happens. I should go back and reread them. I love Jane Austen though I did not start reading her books till I was in college and only read Northanger Abbey a few years ago. My list would also include Khaled Hosseini, J.K. Rowling, and Juliet Marillier.

I haven't yet read Georgette Heyer, Jean Plaidy, or Cynthia Harrod-Eagles though I want to. It is nice to find an author whose books are consistently enjoyable.

  2. You are right! It is so difficult to choose few names when you love reading much. I did it but then I felt guilty: there are so many others!
Of course, I too mention Jane Austen and must confess I turn to Georgette Heyer for some well-written fun reading. Thanks for sharing, Mystica.

  4. This is always a tough one to answer. I like them all, across genres. No favourites, so no bias.

  5. I hadn't heard of Christopher Kremmer, but I just looked up Inhaling the Mahatma and it looks interesting.

Austen has been a popular choice! I've still only read Emma and Pride & Prejudice, I must work on that ...

Thanks again for taking part :)

  6. Glad to know I was not the only one to struggle with coming up with a list.

Only just discovered Rosy Thornton, cannot wait to read more.

  7. I share your love of Austen and Agatha Christie and Georgette Heyer and Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. Though I think you read her historicals and I read her mysteries. :)

PD James has written a sequel to PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, a mystery. Can't wait to read that.

I'm not familiar with some of the other authors you mention but I'll keep an eye out.

So much to read. So little time. :)
