Mailbox Monday hosted for June by Burton Book Reviews. This week my mailbox is overflowing courtesy of a church sale! Both memes coming in a bit early as Monday is going to be hectic. A doctor appointment early in the morning followed by going to Galle (two hour journey away from Colombo).
My first Colin Dexter read! and now to my second!
Two books in one - bargain!
Amanda Brookfield (a bit similar to Rosamunde Pilcher whom I enjoyed very much).
A Sarah Dunant book - In the Company of the Courtesan. Love the cover as well. Set in Renaissance Italy in the year 1527 - background of convents (nostalgic for me!). Whats not to like?
Agatha Christie - I never seem to finish reading her books. This one a Hercule Poirot mystery - Black Coffee.
Another meme - It's Monday - What Are You Reading? hosted by Book Journey.
I am still trying to finish The Rule of four - its slow going. I like the ancient text lost background also set in Oxford background but for some reason its very very slow going.
Have finished one Colin Dexter and am halfway through the Amanda Brookfield book of this week. I get so wrapped up in this weeks new books that I tend to shunt aside earlier books received. Does this happen to other bloggers or do you systematically read in the way you received the books?
Mystica, I read books in any manner I like — there is no set pattern. I recently picked up a book I'd bought two years ago and never read. I take longer to finish a book because I read three at a time but so far I haven't confused the characters from one book with the other...you never know. I have a few Colin Dexters lying around but haven't got down to reading them either.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of Amanda Brookfield so I'll look her up on Goodreads. The Sarah Dunant looks good!
ReplyDeleteGood books for you :D happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to check out the Amanda Brookfield book!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the pick ups at the church sale. :-) The Dexter books look interesting.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
I had the Rule of Four for a while, but I think I finally gave it away as it didn't seem as though I was actually going to read it. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteI like the cover of the Amanda Brookfield book. I've heard that Sarah Dunant is an excellent historical fiction writer but I haven't tried her books yet. I have read Black Coffee. I love Poirot-he is one of my favorite detectives.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Agatha Christie in years. I should pick her back up again--she's always a good, quick read. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteLoved Sacred Hearts by Dunant; hope this one is as good.
ReplyDeleteThe Rule of Four picks up near the end.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite read last week was Chi's Sweet Home, Volume 1 by Kanata Konami. Please come see what else I'm reading.
I'm a mood reader, so sometimes I'm tempted by the new arrivals but other times by books that I've had on the shelf for ages. It's a good problem to have I guess :)
ReplyDeleteThe Sarah Dunant book does look pretty great. Enjoy all your new reads!
Gotta love a good library sale!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week

I need to get some Agatha Christie in me. Feed my brain
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's the book and sometimes it's my mood when a book is slow for me. I hope you have a great week in books!
ReplyDeleteSystematically?? No way! I make a list of the books I want to read for the month and then choose one of them as the mood strikes me.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, Mystica, and enjoy all your new books!
I could be wrong, but I think Black Coffee is not an actual Agatha Christie book, but an adaptation of her book. Very readable, though.
ReplyDeleteHere's my
It's Monday! What Are You Reading? I hope you will stop by!
These all look like great reads! I am going to add In the Company of Courtesans too my list of books to check out. I look forward to your reviews on these. Happy Reading!

It happens to me too when a book is slow and I've started another that I really like, the first book gets put on the back burner. It also depends on what book I'm in the mood to read. Enjoy your reading week!
ReplyDeleteI have not read that Dunant yet~ but I adored the recent one of hers, Sacred Hearts.
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves Agatha Christie...whenever he can't find a book to read, he always goes back to her books.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!

What a great variety! I haven't read Agatha Christie in years, but I loved them when I did. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I read the Rule of Four in pre-blogging days and liked it (it looks so very familiar). I love the title of the Agatha Christie novel and am tempted to read it just to see how coffee plays a role. :)
ReplyDeleteIn the Company of the Courtesan sounds like the type of book I'd really love!
ReplyDeleteAnd as for how I read books, whenever I buy a new book I feel the need to read it immediately. But meanwhile I have tons of unread books just sitting around waiting to be read. It's part of the reason I try not to buy new books, but it's not a very easy habit to break.
Black Coffee sounds like a good read. They all do! Enjoy and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI have books that sit around for years sometimes before I read them. My only system is my calendar where I log my books that I've agreed to read for a tour.
