Mailbox Monday/It's Monday! What are you reading?

The Girl at the Lion d'Or

This came after reading a review on Cosy Books. I do so like this cover though I am reading a digitalized version on Open Library.

The Boston Girl: A Novel

This came from Edelweiss. I liked the only book I read which I won from this author Red Tent. There the setting was ancient Jerusalem. Here we are in contemporary Boston.

These are from Netgalley.

Reading the Sebastian Faulks one. Twenty five pages in and liking it very much.

On another note, does anyone have expectations of comments when writing a review? I sometimes find that the review where I expected comments did not get any and the ones which I felt were rather meh got the most response! Like to know what other bloggers think.

  1. I'm curious about The Barefoot Queen ... going to find out who she is! The Boston Girl should be good. Have a great week & happy reading!
Love your granddaughter's name too :)

  2. I like the look of The Boston Girl.

Sometimes I'm surprised at what reviews get comments compared to others. I guess it depends on people's taste and how busy they are :)

  3. Mystica, the Sebastian Faulks book looks good. I have never read the author before though I have contemplated reading his historical fiction.

I usually get more comments for general posts about books rather than for book reviews. I suppose it'd also depend on one's interest in the book reviewed. On a related note, I think not everyone has a view on the book under review while everyone has an opinion on general issues about books. I also believe the latter are easier to comment upon.

  5. You got me curious about Faulks' book. Yeah comments can be a funny thing. Sometimes it also depends on the day of the week the review is posted on. The beginning of the week seems to be more active.

  6. I don't get comments on reviews very often. I have come to expect that to be the case. When I get a comment, I'm surprised and pleased. Happy reading!

  7. It'll be interesting to see how Anita Diamant handles a contemporary novel - I'm looking forward to your review :)

  8. I've added Barefoot Queen to my TBR pile, the title alone was enough for me.

as for your questions on reviews, I'm kinda new on my blog, just starting out, not many followers, so I haven't gotten any comments on reviews, I know my blog is being visited because of numbers, and author requests, so..such is life, maybe one day it'll pick up, until then im having fun

  9. I've given up on guessing which post will get comments and which won't.. I personally try to comment specifically on reviews.

    Have a great week,

  11. Comments are a fickle thing for sure! I am guilty of reading reviews but not commenting. Enjoy your books.

  12. I've read Sebastian Faulks and Anita Diamant, so am curious about those two titles. Comments are strange... there is just no way to predict which posts or reviews receive them.

I've read a couple by Anita Diamant....loved one and wasn't too excited about the other. Hope you enjoy this one!
