After two weeks of absolute nothing I got some good books this week. Mailbox Monday is being hosted for November by Bermudaonion.
This was a win from Giraffe Days. Thank you Shannon.
My second foray into this gorgeous author!
The precise and almost dry sense of humour of this author is what attracts me here. Always a favourite of mine.
I've never chosen an Oprah Book Club pick so this was a first for me.

Right now I have a Julian Rathbone and a Patricia Cornwell going side by side! the Cornwell is gaining over the Rathbone rather fast. I also have the Hillary Jordan waiting on the sidelines.
Monday mornings are generally busy and tomorrow is again a holiday being the full moon Poya day so there are things that need to get done today and fast. Its a public holiday tomorrow so all banking and any office work must be finished now.
Predictably, Ken Follett used to be popular in my youth with titles like "Eye of the Needle" and "The Key to Rebecca" on top of the list. I haven't read anything by him in the last two decades though I continue to read books by his contemporary, Jack Higgins. Good suspense novels all round.
ReplyDeleteI loved When She Woke and Pillars. Hope you enjoy them! If you really get into Pillars, the size won't matter to you.
ReplyDeleteIs Trace a new one Mystica? I don't remember seeing it
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week!

ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome selection of books. Such a co-incidence that I am currently reading Atwood (The Handmaid's Tale), and it is my second Atwood novel as well :)
ReplyDeleteThe Pillars of the Earth is definitely worth the time. This one even made me turn down a date to read it!
ReplyDeleteYou have some great reads - enjoy!
I read Pillars of the Earth (before Oprah got hold of it, haha) and loved reading about the building of cathedrals. Enjoy your new books!

I really enjoyed the Hillary Jordan book and I think you will too. Pillars of the Earth was great too.
ReplyDeleteFor a long time, Songs in Ordinary Time was a favorite of mine. When I read it recently I didn't like it quite that much anymore. I look forward to reading what you think of it!
I liked When She Woke. And Pillars of the Earth is a hefty tome indeed!

My Mailbox Monday
Cat's Eye is one Atwood that I haven't read yet. I hope you love it!
ReplyDeletePillars intimidated me for a long time, but once I finally decided to dive in, I loved it! Good luck when you get to it!
ReplyDeleteI loved Pillars of the Earth, could not put it down! Enjoy all your books.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so good! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHi there Mystica. Margaret Atwood is an absolute favorite, and Cat's Eye is pretty heavy going, but definitely one of my more brilliant reads. Can't remember much of the storyline as I've read this a few years back, but definitely a keeper. I also own my copy of Pillars of the Earth, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet - saving it for later.
ReplyDeleteNice variety. I hope you enjoy them all!
ReplyDeleteMy book club had a great discussion on When She Woke. Looking forward to your thoughts. Happy reading!
