What are your favourite genres?

I have not done a Meme as yet on this blog so this is new to me. There are so many bloggers out there - some concentrate on one genre whereas others seem to go for many different ones.
This meme is hosted by Lost in Books and you can go there and link as well.

I like a great variety of books which include crime fiction, travel memoirs, general fiction and historical fiction. I think that covers almost everything! I am not into the fantasy and paranormal genres. I have tried to read a couple of books just to see what the buzz is about but it has failed to interest me.

In general fiction I love the Victorian period and also the period of WWI and WWII which has given us wonderful books.

Please let us know what is your favourite reading genre. Is there anything that you dislike intensely and avoid?

  1. Most of my library is fantasy of some sort, with Patricia McKilip being a particular favorite. I also enjoy a good biography and some general fiction.

  2. I enjoy all kinds of general fiction, historical fiction, romance (contemporary and historical), some memoirs. I tend not to read crime fiction, mysteries, etc. because I just don't enjoy them. That said, I never say never :)

  6. Thanks for telling me about my blog page loading problem...grrrrr - makes me mad, but it seems only some IE users are having the problem?

As for my favorite genres, that would be literary fiction, contemporary fiction and thrillers mostly, although I do enjoy non fiction as well.

  7. Wow! What an honor for my meme to be your blog's first meme! So humbling! I love historical fiction too. It has grown on me more and more since I began blogging and reading other blogs. Travel memoirs are often very good reads, too. One of my favorite books is a travel memoir.

  9. I've read a ton of Victorian lit recently. I've almost exhausted myself, but I'll come back in a few months or so. Such a dynamic time period!

  10. I'm also a fan of the Victorians and of the two world wars (that sounds terrible, but you know what you mean :P). I also love fantasy, historical fiction, non-fiction, and more recently mysteries, especially older or historical ones.

  11. My favourites are historical mysteries, interwar novels, fantasy and contemporary literary novels. All sorts really, but I don't read much chicklit, YA or modern thrillers (mainly because I already have too much to read!) I'm also trying to read some non-fiction in between, but they take so long (I'm just being lazy here.) Oh, and I LOVE short stories.
