THE ROSE GARDEN BY SUSANNA KEARSLEY

From the reviews coming up anyone who reads my blog will know that I am not reading from the stack of books I have already mentioned but randomly from what I am picking up daily from the local library in Melbourne! I go to the library with very good intentions of only returning books and maybe picking up one book on my list but all good intentions go out of the window when I see a book like this available!!!

I came to Kearsley only recently and loved her books. This one was a lucky find as it had just come back to the shelves.

History, time travel, romance, a present day story as well. What more could one want from a book and how Kearsley combines them all with the right balances of credibility, possibility and reality is what makes the writing remarkable. You can marvel at her creative skills and imagination in conjuring up a story like this one.

The story centres around Eva who after her sister dies comes to Trelowarth House to dispose of Katrina's ashes in Cornwall. Unexpectedly and suddenly she is taken back to a time of a Jacobite rebellion three hundred years past and falls in love with a remarkable man - Daniel Butler and it is this man who makes her determined to give up her present day life and move back forever.

Apart from the time travel to the past a different aspect was also brought about by time travel in the reverse direction as well. Claire was in the past and brought into the present and lives in the present. Confusing and delicious and something I read for the first time here.

I just couldn't put this book down. Finished it at 2 am - my children think I am nuts!!
