Hosted by Loris Reader Corner for January. No new books this week as well. Work has definitely got in the way of even looking out for new books though I am visiting the blogs as usual.
This meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey has got me in a spin. I am reading but its always a bit of each book, nothing is finished. AND THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!! Three books on my bedside table - Myra Breckenridge (very slow going), Purge by Sofi Oksanen (I cannot understand why I am finding this a drag) and Songs in Ordinary Time - I really thought this family story would keep me going (as it usually does) but 150 pages in I find myself dawdling. No other word for this.
I have a pile of books still to be read but it seems so undisciplined for me to do this!!! I think my convent upbringing has a lot to do with this. Finish what you started. Old habits die hard.
Same here, Mystica. Once I start a book, I stay with it until the end. I hate to give up on a half-read book. The author deserves respect even if you don't enjoy his or her book anymore.
ReplyDeleteSometimes life just gets in the way, slowing down reading, even on a good book.
ReplyDeleteIt took me quite a few years of reading and reviewing to say, I'm not enjoying that book and I'm not going to finish it ... it doesn't happen very often, first I felt guilty, but now I feel liberated lol
I nearly always finish a book (especially if I've paid it). I feel bad that I made a poor choice! Plus, I still want to know what happens at the end no matter what...
ReplyDeleteI used to feel the same about finishing a book - especially if I'd already invested time to read 150 pages. But not anymore. There are just too many books I want to read that I refuse to waste more time on a book that isn't giving me any enjoyment. It's rather empowering once you do it!
ReplyDeleteMystica - you're so cute! Good luck on finishing something this week. I know the feeling well.
ReplyDeleteI have trouble setting a book aside too. I'm slogging through one that my book club chose so I know how you're feeling.
ReplyDeleteI was in the same boat with the dawdling. After loving one book, I plowed straight into the next book and I stalled out. Hopefully this week will be better once I cross it off my list!
ReplyDeleteOne of my vows this year is not to spend time on books I'm not enjoying. It's okay to move on.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the ones you want to read!
Thanks for visiting my blog.
It sounds like you're in a bit of a slump. I hope you snap out of it soon :)
ReplyDeleteHope you will find a few books you truly enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHope you find a book that keeps your interest! At times I find myself in more than one book too.
ReplyDeleteI know what it's like to read a book that is slow. So frustrating! And it looks like all three of your books are not exciting. When this happens I no longer feel an obligation to read the book except maybe if it's on tour.
ReplyDeleteI still struggle with giving up on a book, but it does happen sometimes. They can't all be books that I love! Good luck with your reading this week!
ReplyDeleteI hope you find something you like. I know what that feeling is like when you are forcing yourself to read a book. I force myself to finish books I don't like. It's not a good thing. Hope things get better for you.
ReplyDeleteEveryone goes through a slow period now and again. Hope you'll have more time for reading soon!
ReplyDeleteI hate abandoning books too. Perhaps if you focus on one book at a time, you will be able to get through them? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe all have our slow times :) Take it easy!
